Apple Cider Vinegar

Ok guys, seriously, I can’t say enough about this amazing product and all of it’s anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, and anti-viral properties!!!

Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar is unfiltered, unheated, unpasteurized, and contains 5% acidity. Why is Braggs so great, because it contains the amazing Mother of Vinegar which occurs naturally as strand-like enzymes of protein molecules. The Mother is the grainy looking object that stays afloat in the bottom of the jar which carries all the essential nutrients.

It can be used both internally and externally – I use it both ways!

Internal/External Benefits:

  • rich in enzymes and potassium
  • supports a healthy immune system
  • helps control weight
  • promotes digestion and ph balance
  • helps soothe dry throats
  • helps remove toxins in the body
  • helps maintain healthy skin
  • helps promote youthful, healthy bodies
  • soothes irritated skin
  • relieves muscle pain from exercise
  • banishes bad breath
  • reduces nighttime leg cramps

The top 3 reasons I use it are to promote healthy digestion, to help support a strong immune system, and to maintain healthy skin. I struggle, and always have, with psoriasis (a skin condition). I have been using a combination of essential oils to try to control it lately but with the stress I’ve had in my life this past year I knew I needed something extra. I recently went to a Dermatologist to seek advice and the Dr. basically said all I could do is slather on a bunch of products on to it and see if it helps. Well, those products contain chemicals I try to avoid such as parabens, sulfates, etc. So, with that said, I went home to try to determine other natural methods I could try.

Side Note: Does anyone else find it interesting that the Dermatologist never asked about my diet during our visit? I had to ask her about it and even then I could tell she felt uncomfortable with that question. I was; however, able to learn that dairy products are known to flare up skin issues like psoriasis the most. Therefore, to avoid as much as possible. The Dr. said dairy consumption is worse than gluten apparently in that sense. I’m glad I asked! I’ve been trying to cut it out completely from my diet over the last year or so but man…I love ice cream soooo much 🙁 Anyways, I think that’s a huge problem with Dr.’s not asking about our diet because many of our issues can be solved with food. Then we wouldn’t need to use steroid creams and such which may fix the problem externally but could disrupt our bodies internally; for example, our hormone levels.

ACV to the RESCUE!

I’ve done a few ACV rinses in my hair now and have been blown away by the results. I wet my hair with a mixture of ACV and water, let it sit, and then wash it out. Afterwards I get to enjoy an itch free scalp for a couple of days before needing to do it again. If you struggle with an irritated scalp or have an accumulation of hair product build up on your scalp you may want to try it and see if it helps; check it out here! I have also been using the same mixture (combination of ACV and water) to treat other patches of irritated skin and as a facial toner used before I apply a moisturizer. There is no doubt about it, ACV has amazing health properties! Not only can it keep your immune system healthy but it can make your skin glow and your digestive system regular; who doesn’t want either of those things?!?!

Daily Routine

What I like to do is dilute a tablespoon of ACV with 4-8 oz of warm water 1-2x per day. In the morning I like to add lemon to the mixture and in the evening maybe lemon again with honey. The lemon and honey help to dilute the taste of it, especially if you are just getting started and not used to it. I’ve adjusted to the taste and really enjoy it now. It does take some getting used to though that’s for sure. Some people like to take a shot of ACV straight but I wouldn’t recommend this method because it burns! Your best bet is to mix it with water (warm or cold), depends on your liking. I prefer to drink the mixture before a meal to help aid in digestion; although, others may prefer to drink it after because it’s hard on their stomach beforehand. It’s completely up to you!!! That’s the beauty of it.

You can add ACV to your cooking too for additional benefits. The opportunities are endless! I’m still discovering all of it’s endless benefits with each day and finding new ways to incorporate it into my lifestyle.

Have you been using ACV in your daily routine?

Do you suffer with digestion and/or skin issues?

Comment below to share your thoughts on ACV and what you have found to work for you because that’s what it’s all about, determining what works best for your own body. Your favorite method could become a solution for someone else, let’s be healthier together! Life is all about trial and error. We learn from our mistakes, grow from experiences, and improve our wellbeing over time. Life is a journey…

This is an amazing post! I think it is sooo interesting how the doctor didn’t ask you about your diet, or mine for that fact! Everytime I go they don’t even consider what you eat or how your lifestyle is… they just pass you onto some medication to help mask the issue. And in your case, could possibly make your issue even worse as it doesn’t do well for you internally. Couldn’t have described that issue any better, it would be nice if the medical field could apply functional medicine lifestyle to their practice.

Also, I was really hesitant and pushing off apple cider vinegar… FOR YEARS. My mom has it and it chills in the cupboard staring at me everyday and I’m like… i know it has benefits but idk what… it just smells awful. But! Today is a new day and I am now inspired to try it. I suffer from acne and digestive issues, and I’ve been drinking a lot of milk and dairy products… I’m going to give this a shot.

Thanks so much on the post! You really informed me. 🙂

You can do it! Just make sure to dilute it and add in some lemon/honey until you get used to the taste. Start with 1 tsp and gradually increase over time to 1-2 tbsp! Keep me posted on how it goes for you; fingers crossed it helps with your digestive issues as it has mine!
