In this article published by the Wellness Mama she describes perfectly (in my own opinion) the benefits of collagen powder and how to use it. Make sure to click on the link to read the whole article, but here are some basic takeaways from it.

What is Collagen?

It’s a protein that makes up roughly 1/3 of the protein in our bodies and 70% of the protein in our skin.

Where is it found?

It’s found in high quality broths and in cuts of meat that contain skin and bone. Many of us don’t get enough collagen from these sources so supplementation can be beneficial.

Collagen Powder Uses

It can be used in either cold or hot foods/drinks and dissolves easily. Depending upon the brand, one tablespoon could give you anywhere from 5-7 grams of protein.

My #1 way I use Collagen daily is in my coffee every morning. I’ll add 1-2 tablespoons to my coffee along with probably a tsp or so of vanilla ghee and MCT oil. This way I get in extra protein and health fats into my diet and stay focused/energized all day long. It helps to keep me full and curve my appetite for sugars.

My #2 favorite way to use it is in my steel cut oatmeal along with maybe another scoop of protein powder for a total of 15 grams of protein combined. There are tons of protein powders out there but right now I’m really enjoying this one with this collagen.

My #3 way to use collagen powder is in a smoothie. In the winter I tend to fall away from smoothies so that’s why right now it’s my #3 and oatmeal is my #2.

What I’m loving most about collagen powder right now…definitely my overall skin complexion and shiny, non-dry hair! Try it out for yourself and see if you notice anything great that happens for you. Give it a few weeks before you make a judgement call and let me know what you think 😉
