Many of the blogs I follow have been sending me links to this documentary called The Truth About Cancer. It’s a 9 part document series that opens tonight at 9pm Eastern Time. All episodes begin airing at 9pm Easter Time and are available to view for the next 23 hours, which allows time for the next episode to be loaded to the site for viewing. I’m really looking forward to the powerful and educational information that will be released.

22 Ways to Cancer-Proof Your Life Today

According to the author of The Truth About Cancer, Ty Bollinger, it is estimated that approximately 41% of people today living in the Unites States will develop some form of cancer in the next 20 years. Take a moment to consider what that could mean for you or your family. Cancer causing toxins are hidden from us as consumers in so many of our products that we purchase such as shampoos/conditioners, soaps, household cleaners, lotions, sunscreens, and in our food/water! This report on 22 Ways to Cancer-Proof Your Life Today by Ty Bollinger helps to expose many of those toxins.

1. Toothpaste 

Ingredients to avoid: Fluoride (linked to lower IQ in children and dental fluorosis), Propylene Glycol (linked to organ toxicity), Triclosan (disrupts hormone production and promotes cancer).

2. Mouthwash

Your body contains a special type of good bacteria that promotes digestion and many types of mouthwash contain chlorhexidine that destroys this bacteria. Thus leading to a weak immune system.

3. Dental Floss

Ingredient to avoid: perfluorinated polymer, or PFC. This chemical is a cheap replacement for wax that interferes with hormone and immune function and may increase the risk of some forms of cancer.

4. Hair Care

Ingredients to avoid: parabens (a preservative linked to breast cancer), synthetic fragrance chemicals, and sulfates.

5. Hand and Body Lotion

Ingredients to avoid: emulsifiers used to thicken lotion such as Diethanolamide (DEA), Monoethanolamides (MEA), Triethanolamides (TEA), Monoisopropanolamides (MIPA), Ethyxolated alkyloamides (PEG).

6. Body Soap and Washes

Ingredients to avoid: Benzyl Acetate (a perfume chemical linked to cancer) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate, or SLS (damages cellular genetics and inhibits your skins ability to retain moisture).

7. Deodorant and Antiperspirant 

Ingredient to avoid: Aluminum (a metal compound that blocks the pores in your armpits and inhibits detoxification through sweat and can deposit into breast tissue once absorbed into the body)

8. Hand Sanitizer 

These products kill all bacteria, including the good bacteria needed to support our immune systems. Hand sanitizers contain triclosan which is absorbed directly into the skin. Look for natural alternatives that use aloe vera instead.

9. Sunscreen

Harmful additives to avoid: oxybenzone, avobenzone, octisalate, octocrylene, homosalata, and oxtinoxate. The best option is to choose natural, mineral based versions that contain zinc oxide.

10. Feminine Hygiene Products 

All contain harmful chemicals such as chlorine, dioxins, plastics, synthetic fibers, and synthetic fragrances. To avoid these chemicals it’s important to choose brands non-toxic, natural components.

11. Baby Wipes and Diapers 

Ingredients to avoid: dioxin, volatile organic compounds or VOCs, and sodium polyacrylate or SAP. Look for chlorine free, fragrance free, and mostly chemical free compounds.

12. Household Cleaning Supplies 

Ingredients to avoid: lye, ammonia, chloramine gases, 1,4-dioxane, and a laundry list of hormone disrupting chemicals.

13. Laundry Detergent 

Ingredient to avoid: 1,4-dioxane which is found in most popular brands.

14. Dishwashing Detergents and Dish Soap

As with laundry soap, dish soap, and household cleaning supplies, dishwashing detergent and dish soap are filled with endocrine disrupting chemcials and carcinogenic substances.

15. Air Fresheners 

Avoid the commercial ones at all costs! They are among the most toxic products out there. Try using essential oils and diffuser instead.

16. Bathroom Shower Curtains 

Ingredient to avoid: PVC or polyvinyl chloride are incredibly toxic and mostly commonly found. The best bet is to opt for a PEVA vinyl shower curtain instead.

17. Cookware 

The best and safest options for cookware are stainless steel, cast iron, or copper.

18. Processed, Packaged Food 

Food processing methods such as heat, pressure, and certain forms of light/radiation diminish food of its naturally occurring nutrients.These processed “foods” place a tremendous compromise the immune system and contribute to the growing cancer epidemic. Ingredients to avoid: preservatives, artificial colors, artificial sweeteners, emulsifiers, thickeners, and the list goes on and on. Instead eat real, whole food!

19. Conventionally-Grown Fruits & Vegetables 

Certain fruits and vegetables contain more pesticides and chemicals than others. Here is the list of the 12 fruits and vegetables highest in pesticides (dirty dozen) and should be avoided unless organic: apples, peaches, nectarines, strawberries, grapes, celery, spinach, sweet bell peppers, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, imported snap peas, and potatoes. Here is the list of the 15 fruits and vegetables (clean 15) least likely to contain pesticide residue: avocados, sweet corn, pineapple, cabbage, frozen sweet peas, onions, asparagus, mangoes, papayas, kiwi, eggplant, grapefruit, cantaloupe, cauliflower, sweet potatoes.

20. Genetically-Modified Foods 

The most common GMO foods to avoid in America: soy, corn, canola, sugar beets, hawaiian papaya, alfalfa, yellow squash, and zucchini. Hidden additives made from GMO’s in processed foods: citric acid, vegetable oil, caramel color, dextrose, isoflavones.

21. Factory Farmed Animal Foods

Look for the following words when shopping in stores for meat, eggs, and other animal products: non-GMO certified, Certified Organic, Pasture-raised, and Grass-fed. Purchase local meats and eggs whenever possible.

22. Fluoride 

The fluoride that’s being added to our water is not the same as the naturally occurring mineral fluorine or calcium fluoride. Instead, it’s industrial waste product of the phosphate fertilizer industry. To determine if your city’s water contains synthetic fluoride chemicals call your water utility. Ways to improve water quality: buy a water filter, drink filtered or spring water.


My thoughts:

I don’t know about you all but I have had way too many people in my life affected by cancer. There are so many great products out there that actively take a stand in eliminating these harmful ingredients from their products. However, it’s up to us as consumers to spend the time researching those products and choosing the best options for us and our families. So I encourage you all to look at the label next time you buy something and think about what you are putting on or in your body that could affect your health. Life is precious, don’t waste it!
